Anna "Naki" Papadopoulou

Sit down with Greece-based graphic designer and illustrator Naki as we discuss what the Lower Your Sights project means to her, her contribution to the anthology, and her thoughts on the unifying power of art.

Q: What does this project mean to you?
Naki: Lower Your Sights means a lot to me. Coming together to support people in need in any way possible is always amazing and I’ll always be grateful to be a part of such an initiative. On a personal level, it’s as simple as having friends there. Friends who I am lucky enough to know are safe and sound. However that is not the case for a lot of people and I now understand the feeling of waiting for a smidge of news, helpless because we’re so close, yet so far apart. So I’d jump at any opportunity I knew would help ease the pain of it all even a little.

Q: What is your contribution to Lower Your Sights? (Short Story, Pinup, Etc.)
Naki: Short comic (as coloring assistant, story and inks by Ennun Ana Iurov)

Q: In addition to supplying food and essential supplies, Voices of Children also provides art therapy to help kids cope and overcome the stress, anxiety, and trauma of living in war conditions. Do you believe art has the power to heal?
Naki: Absolutely! Art in my opinion is a way to express thoughts and feelings especially when words fail to do that. It can help someone understand the experiences they’ve had to endure or even completely let go of them. Or on the other hand, it can help a person forget for a little bit, comfort them and help them relax. It’s a core belief of mine that, one way or another, art can help people find peace.
