Jarred Lujan

Sit down with Texan writer Jarred Lujan as we discuss what the Lower Your Sights project means to him, his contribution to the anthology, and his thoughts on the unifying power of art.

Q: What does this project mean to you?
Jarred: It means a lot to contribute to this because it directly aids and helps innocent people caught in conflicts outside of their control. To be able to use comics as a form of aid means so much to me as both a human being and a writer.

Q: What is your contribution to Lower Your Sights? (Short Story, Pinup, Etc.)
Jarred: I wrote a short comic called The Wheel with art by the incredible Sean Dicker.

Q: In addition to supplying food and essential supplies, Voices of Children also provides art therapy to help kids cope and overcome the stress, anxiety, and trauma of living in war conditions. Do you believe art has the power to heal?
Jarred: Absolutely. In many ways, art has healed me from my own traumas and wounds. The thing about art is that it is, by its nature, transcendent from so many of the barriers that divide human beings—whether they’re artificial or organic. That’s a unique and special quality that history has shown can be powerful.
