Ignacio Di Meglio

Sit down with Buenos Aires-based cartoonist Ignacio Di Meglio as we discuss what the Lower Your Sights project means to him, his contribution to the anthology, and his thoughts on the unifying power of art.

Q: What does this project mean to you?
Ignacio: This project means a lot to me. Personally, I feel honored to contribute to an anthology with such an important and beautiful goal. “Lower your Sights” gives us the chance to help children in a tangible way with the stories we tell. Professionally it gave me the opportunity to join forces with the great Brian Hawkins again which is always a joy. We put together a heart-wrenching tale that we felt compelled to tell despite it being the saddest thing I ever did in comic format. I believe it’s important to create these kinds of stories in the comic medium to bring light to the cause and to what the medium is capable to achieve as a vehicle for awareness. And don’t get me started on what a huge honor it is to be counted among all of these amazing creators. I‘m humbled and grateful to be a part of this anthology.

Q: What is your contribution to Lower Your Sights? (Short Story, Pinup, Etc.)
Ignacio: I am the artist/co-creator for the short story Invisible Child with writer/co-creator Brian Hawkins.

Q: In addition to supplying food and essential supplies, Voices of Children also provides art therapy to help kids cope and overcome the stress, anxiety, and trauma of living in war conditions. Do you believe art has the power to heal?
Ignacio: From my perspective, I know art has the power to heal because I ́m living proof of it. Art in general and comics, in particular, have been my anchor and driving force to keep pushing forward in becoming the best person I can be. A constant source of amazement and inspiration that act as a balm against the ailments of life
