Sit down with NYC-based illustrator Irlander Romero as we discuss what the Lower Your Sights project means to him, his contribution to the anthology, and his thoughts on the unifying power of art.
Q: What does this project mean to you?
Irlander: No one should have to live through war. However, when it does happen, there need to be people who can help those in need. If by my art I get to help someone feel better or benefit someone who is in need, or even just make someone smile, that means a lot to me.
Q: What is your contribution to Lower Your Sights? (Short Story, Pinup, Etc.)
Irlander: Artwork for a short story
Q: In addition to supplying food and essential supplies, Voices of Children also provides art therapy to help kids cope and overcome the stress, anxiety, and trauma of living in war conditions. Do you believe art has the power to heal?
Irlander: Art has helped me get through tough times. Not just drawing but studying and looking at others’ art. Playing music, listening to music. Expressing yourself with art, whether it be singing, drawing, dancing, playing music, anything can have a healing effect on yourself and others as well.
About Irlander Romero
“Been drawing since I was a little 3 year old and never put the pencil down since. I love comic books, video games (probably addicted) and music. If you’d like to work with me, then feel free to hit me up at my socials or you can just stop by to say hello!” – Irlander Romero, Illustrator
Irlander’s illustrations will be featured in the short story, The Journey of Milosz and Myr, from our upcoming Ukrainian benefit anthology, Lower Your Sights. You can check out more of Irlander’s work here!
Mad Cave Studios and Voices Of Children are teaming up to publish Lower Your Sights, a graphic novel anthology, to raise awareness and proceeds for children impacted by war. Earnings from the book’s sales are going directly to the Voices of Children foundation.
