Mad Cave Studios Announces The Tiger’s Tongue

Long ago, a warrior saved a tiger from death. The Grand Tiger pledged loyalty to the warrior and his small village in return, claiming the people as his own, and gifting them with his kind’s protection, along with powers and divine visions… The Grand Tiger once warned, however, if there were ever twins born into the warrior’s family, they would, upon coming of age, battle to determine who would take the throne in order to bring forth a newer, better world.

Heed the Tiger’s Tongue, and you will not be led astray. Our upcoming series, The Tiger’s Tongue, will take readers on a spiritual journey alongside twin princesses Kelindi and Aridani as they navigate through trials of mind, body, and spirit, in order to determine the next ruler of the Tiger’s People:

“A trial of mind, to test their wisdom and clarity.

A trial of spirit, to test their connection to our ancestors and traditions.

And a trial of body, to test their ferocity, and ultimate power.”

-King Oleandra

Featuring a series of covers by celebrated artist Odera Igbokwe, Writer Olivia Stephens (Wild is the Wind), and newcomer Diansakhu Banton-Perry chronicle an epic fantasy that grapples with how much good, if any, can come from a system born of subjugation.

Author: Olivia Stephens – Artist: Diansakhu Banton-Perry –  Colorist: Bex Glendining – Letterer: Joamette Gil

Synopsis: Under the militant rule of The Tiger’s People, empowered by their animal familiars, the Claw is on the brink of war. At the precipice of adulthood, twin princesses Kelindi and Aridani hold the future of the Claw in their hands. Kelindi would sue for peace with The River’s People, those who were subjugated “to bring order,” while Aridani has never aspired to rule. But an ancient prophecy is revealed that’ll force fate’s hand for the sisters…

MEET THE CREATORS!

Olivia Stephens (She/Her) – Writer
Olivia Stephens is a graphic novelist, illustrator, and writer from the Pacific Northwest. She earned her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017. Olivia has created work for a number of sites and publications, including The New York Times, The Guardian, and FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction. Her debut graphic novel, ARTIE AND THE WOLF MOON, comes out from Lerner Books in Fall 2021.

“THE TIGER’S TONGUE is a story that deals with power and the friction that can occur between the personal and political pieces in one’s life. My hope is that it reaches those who need it most: those of us who are frustrated, angry, and scared—but who still get up to fight. This is also my first time writing a story that I’m not illustrating, and I could not be happier to have the immense creative talents of Diansakhu, Bex, Odera and Joamette in bringing it to life!”
