Danger lurks around every corner, and Jordan finds himself in the middle of a mysterious prophecy–and in the sights of the mysterious Prince Astel! With magic outlawed by Queen Emereth for almost 20 years, time threatens to reveal Lymeria’s dark secrets, and Jordan must step up to the plate as Prince Astel’s knight in shining armor! Together, Jordan and Prince Astel must look within to unlock inner strengths, face hidden truths, and ultimately, save the kingdom!
In the Shadow of the Throne will take readers along with Jordan to a mystical land, where anything is possible! Synopsis: When his younger siblings and parents begin to irritate him on vacation, Jordan tries to get some space. But instead of wandering around the museum, he finds himself dropped in a fantasy world of magic where he can finally have some fun and train to become a knight. Except Prince Astel and Sir Griffith are about to uncover a sinister secret kept hidden by the Queen that’ll thrust Jordan in the middle of a magical battle he never could have anticipated.

Kate Sheridan (They/She) Writer
Kate Sheridan is a nonbinary comic creator from Philadelphia. Their work has been published by BOOM! Studios, Abrams, and others, as well featured in various anthologies. They love all things fantasy and folklore, tabletop RPGs, and birds.
“As a queer kid who had dreamed of running away to a fantasy world and finding drama, danger, magic, and romance, In the Shadow of the Throne has a special place in my heart! I wanted to tell the kind of story that I wanted when I was that age, and I hope it resonates with teens today. I’m truly blown away by how Gaia has brought our story to life, and so grateful to her, Mike, and the Mad Cave team for making this book with me and giving it a home.”

Gaia Cardinali (She/Her) Artist/Colorist
Born in 1992 in Ancona, Italy, Gaia Cardinali graduated from the Academy of Fine Art in Bologna with a concentration in Comics & Illustration in 2015. She published her first graphic novel Viktoria with Italian publisher Tunué, which won her the Romic’s 2018 Best New Talent Award and Treviso Comic Book Festival’s 2018 Best Comics for Young Adults Award. She’s also worked on properties like Disney’s Mulan with Dark Horse. Her next graphic novel La Leonessa di Dordona releases April 2021 from Tunué.
“In the Shadow of the Throne is a graphic novel I would have dreamed of reading when I was a teenager and now I can say I was part of the team that created it. I loved drawing Astiel and Jordan and loved seeing them grow. I grew as well thanks to their adventure. It has been wonderful getting to walk with them in that world full of hope and magic.
