Synopsis: Azarie wants to be able to show her true self. Noah wants his dream to be accepted. They find out that their paths intersect when it comes to one thing: Cosplay.
Miami, FL – Mad Cave Studios’ new Young Adult line, Maverick, announces its first title, Needle & Thread. This original story is about how choosing between living the life you want and living the life you’re “supposed to” is not always an easy choice. Noah wants to embrace his true-self and pursue his passion in costume design, but his traditional parents refuse to approve his choice. Azarie is the perfect daughter of a very stern, political family with dreams of embracing the hobbies she secretly loves, hobbies her social circle would never abide by.
Their two different lives and social statuses keep them from ever crossing paths until a chance encounter exposes their mutual goal: the desire to live the life they’ve chosen for themselves. Together, the two set out to show everyone who they really are through the unlikely medium of cosplay. Their friendship will be tested, their faith in themselves and each other will be tried, but by staying true to themselves they discover that they truly need each other to achieve their goals.
Maverick was created to connect the young adult community with stories they could see themselves in. To find themselves within the pages or in this case, to sew a friendship together that you never saw coming.
Create your own cosplay just like Noah does in Needle & Thread, and share your designs with us @maverick_ogn on social media for a chance to receive a free copy on release day!
“When Mad Cave came to me with the idea of two characters that meet and express themselves through cosplay, I initially wasn’t sure how we’d be able to pull out a compelling story that would last the course of a graphic novel. But after really diving into the characters and pulling back the curtain on all their wants and needs, it was clear just how deep and rich this story was going to be. There was a ton of ideas and concepts to play with and build upon to make the story as compelling and relatable as we wanted.” - Writer, David Pinckney
“Needle & Thread has been my introduction into the world of professionally published comics. It's the first time I am working together with others on comics and it made me both nervous and incredibly excited. It's been an amazing experience, especially as I relate and empathize a lot with the main characters' struggles. I wouldn't trade the last few months for the world!” - Artist, Ennun Ana Iurov
