Iryna Babenko

Sit down with Ukrainian creator Iryna Babenko as we discuss what the Lower Your Sights project means to her, her contribution to the anthology, and her thoughts on the unifying power of art.

Q: What does this project mean to you?
Iryna: For me this project is about showing the world how war affects children and families.
It’s a way to make people put themselves in the shoes of people that suffer from war, to imagine their kids instead of kids in illustration.

Q: What is your contribution to Lower Your Sights? (Short Story, Pinup, Etc.)
Iryna: I’ve contributed an Illustration.

Q: In addition to supplying food and essential supplies, Voices of Children also provides art therapy to help kids cope and overcome the stress, anxiety, and trauma of living in war conditions. Do you believe art has the power to heal?
Iryna: I believe art has the power to heal. I feel its impact on me. When I’m stressed because of cruel news I let my anger or sadness out on the illustration.
