Jonathan Hedrick
Sit down with Melbourne, Florida-based writer Jonathan Hedrick as we discuss what the Lower Your Sights project means to him, his contribution to the anthology, and his thoughts on the unifying power of art.
Q: What does this project mean to you?
Jonathan: To be able to contribute to such an important project like this one is a true privilege. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for the children who are suffering day to day in Ukraine. I hope that my small contribution can provide some sort of relief for them.
Q: What is your contribution to Lower Your Sights? (Short Story, Pinup, Etc.)
Jonathan: I wrote the story No Time To Grieve which I took from my own experience in the military. It’s deeply personal for me. This fragment of my life is something I haven’t shared with many people but I’m glad it will be told through this anthology.
Q: In addition to supplying food and essential supplies, Voices of Children also provides art therapy to help kids cope and overcome the stress, anxiety, and trauma of living in war conditions. Do you believe art has the power to heal?
Jonathan: There’s no doubt in my mind. Art, in many forms, has the ability to make us feel so many emotions. As for myself, I know when I’m feeling depressed, sick, or even anxious, that art can increase my spirit. Sometimes a good song, funny movie, or even a comic book is the right medicine.
