It was later learned that this was an attempt to sow discord amongst the crusading nations by blaming the killing on Richard the Lionheart. One assassin was captured and died in captivity…The other escaped the Crusaders’ grasp. This is the story of Aya’s first assignment. This is the story of the day she truly became… Hashashin (Chronology: Takes place in April 1192).
Meet the Creators!
“Tales from Nottingham has seen us bring new and diverse talent to the world of Nottingham. Guiding them as they explore the events that have shaped our characters into what you see (or will see) in the pages of Nottingham, all the while paying forward the opportunities that Mad Cave Studios has given us has been a career highlight. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have in store for Marian, Robin, Tuck, Aya, and our beleaguered Sheriff himself.” – Writer, David Hazan
“When David and I started Nottingham, I don’t think either of us could have predicted the heights it would reach! It’s been so cool to see new creators grow these characters and expand this world. Personally, it’s been awesome to work on a book with David again – especially one that digs into the backstory of one of my favourite characters!” – Artist, Shane Connery Volk
Q&A WITH LUCA ROMANO!
We had the chance to sit down and chat with the original colorist of Nottingham, Luca Romano, whose colors will feature in Tales From Nottingham #1: Hashashin! Check out our interview below!
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself!
L: I’m the colorist of Nottingham! Born and raised in Italy, I somehow managed to stumble my way into making comics my full time job, giving my master degree in Visual Arts a semblance of sense after all. Metalhead, darksynth explorer, lo-fi enjoyer, when I’m not coloring I’m almost certainly videogaming or role-playing. I can be found around the internet as Malkamok, but I’m mostly active on Twitter and Instagram.
Q: What is your contribution to Tales of Nottingham?
L: I’ve had the pleasure of coloring the story looking back to our favorite hashashin’s past in issue #1, and the cover for the whole anthology.
Q: Which Nottingham character would you say you resonate with the most?
L: Tough question. The ’90s kid in me loves to empathize with our grim sheriff, but I’m deeply entertained by the “eat the rich” wildfire that Marian has become!
Q: What does your creative process look like, and where do you draw inspiration from?
L: I spend way too much time finding the right music or audiobook/narration to accompany my working hours, but after that it’s all flowing in the routine of deciding the page atmosphere, building the volumes, and add a ton of tweaks with adjustment layers. Habits built over the years help reduce the blank page anxiety! As for inspiration, the paintings of classical master are
Q: Any projects or events on the horizon that we should be looking out for?
L: There will be more (painted) blood spilled on the shores of England, this much I can say…
